Source: Reading Eagle, Pa.迷利倉Oct. 19--The Greater Berks Food Bank thanked donors and volunteers for supporting its mission to feed the hungry during its 30th Annual World Food Day breakfast Friday, the organization's biggest fundraiser of the year.More than 220 gathered at Crowne Plaza Reading, Wyomissing, to reflect on the nonprofit's first 30 years and discuss plans for the future.Leaders of the food bank, which serves about 60,000 people in Berks, Schuylkill and western Montgomery counties, say they are eager to expand their Muhlenberg Township facility or move into a larger building.The event raised about $30,000, said Doug Long, manager of marketing and development for the food bank."We simply are out of space and cannot do more at our current location," Executive Director Peg Bianca said previously of the 19,500-square-foot warehouse off Tuckerton Road.Offici自存倉ls are leaning toward purchasing a new facility rather than expanding, Long said.In its first year of operation, the food bank had 12 member agencies and distributed 500,000 pounds of food. This year, officials expect to distribute more than 7 million pounds of food to more than 300 charitable food assistance programs, which include food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, after-school programs and senior housing facilities.The cost of Friday's breakfast was underwritten by Rosalind Hyman of Wyomissing, Bogia Engineering Inc. of Wyomissing, and M&T Bank of Reading.Chris Brand, public and community relations manager for Giant Food Stores, based in Carlisle, presented a $9,000 check to the organization.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Reading Eagle (Reading, Pa.)
