Harry Friedman this week for saving a man and his dog from drowning.Friedman and his wife were in Oxnard on Sept. 15 when he heard cries for help coming from the water where he had just seen a small wood-sided dinghy being towed.Without hesitation, Friedman scaled a tall chain-link fence and swam about 75 yards in nearly 60-degree water to reach Jose Guardado who had become distressed after jumping into the water to save his dog named Monster. The cold temperatures of the water had caused severe cramping in the 55-year-old victim's legs and back, preventing him from being able to swim."Right off to my peripheral vision. I saw this guy walking by, then all of a sudden darted out to the p自存倉er and pushed these guys, threw off his shirt and shoes and he was in the water," said Guardado of Fraizer Park."He came right to me and grabbed me by my neck and he said, 'I used to be a lifeguard don't fight me.' And I said, 'I'll go whereever the hell you want me to go.'"Friedman reached the victim, rolled him onto his back and held him above the water's surface as he swam back to shore."I tell you. If it wasn't for (Friedman), I would be dead," Guardado said.Cpt. Friedman received the commendation during the Nov. 13 Board of Directors meeting.Guardado was present to thank Friedman for saving his life.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin (Ontario, Calif.)
