Source: York Daily Record, Pa.self storageSept. 27--YORK, Pa. -- York Habitat for Humanity hopes a tour of the city's best faith architecture will rally supporters for its next round of home builds. The organization is hosting its second Building on Faith Historic Church Tour Sunday afternoon. A luncheon will be followed by a tour of nine of the city's grandest churches. Tickets are $7 in advance, or $10 at the door. The tour begins at 12:30 p.m. from St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church at 140 N. Beaver St.All proceeds will benefit York Habitat for Humanity's 2013 "Building on Faith" project, a duplex for two families at 403 and 405 S. Albemarle St.Tracey DePasquale, associate director of Lutheran Advocacy Ministry inPa., said the church tour was first held last year with five churches. With much of York's finest historic architecture found in its churches, and Habitat being a Christian organization, it fit perfectly, she added."So much of our community never gets to see the beautiful art and architecture. Now you get to see it all in nine churches without having to sit through nine sermons," joked DePasquale, who serves on Habitat's Faith Relations and Building on Faith Project committees. The chmini storagerches on the tour were chosen because they are within walking distance, she said. Many were eager to be part of the tour after last year, she added. The churches are handling the tours and participants are free to visit churches at their own pace.Whatever funds are raised will be matched by St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Last year, the event raised about $400. The Habitat mission is more successful when everyone pitches in what they can, DePasquale said."We are baptized into this body (of Christ) and called to do this work together. When we are partners in ministry, then with big tasks that can seem overwhelming ... we realize that we can make a difference when we're working together," DePasquale said.Highlights include the story of the time George Washington worshipped at Trinity Lutheran Church -- then known as the German Reformed Church -- on July 3, 1791. Tickets are available at participating churches, the York Habitat office (33 S. Seward St., York) or online at .mycommunitytickets .com.@jhilton32; 717-771-2024@jhilton32; 717-771-2024Copyright: ___ (c)2013 York Daily Record (York, Pa.)
