A 10-strong Chinese family fought a desperate battle for survival and helped one another from a New Zealand river yesterday after their vehicle plunged off a bridge in remote countryside.新蒲崗迷你倉 But a 59-year-old Hong Kong resident who had been driving the family as they holidayed in New Zealand was killed and at least three other family members were hurt in the fall into the Mataura River on the country's South Island. A woman in her 40s appeared to have spinal injuries. She was flown by helicopter to Southland Hospital in Invercargill. So was another family member with head injuries. A second helicopter took a woman to Dunedin Hospital with chest injuries. The others, who escaped with minor injuries or unscathed, were taken by road to Southland Hospital. By last night, however, eight of the fam迷你倉ly had been cleared by doctors and were allowed out of hospital. The exception was the woman in Dunedin. The family were traveling near State Highway 6 some 55 kilometers south of Queenstown when the vehicle crunched on the single-lane bridge at around 1.20pm and went into the river. Also in the vehicle was the victim's brother, another two male relatives, three females and three children. Most of the family group - six from Hong Kong, three from Canada and one from Guangdong - appear to have met up in New Zealand on January 27 and rented the vehicle. The dead-end road they had been on runs to Nokomai Station, a high- country sheep and cattle property. "I wonder why they were up this way," a local woman told the New Zealand Herald.
