Source: Cape Cod Times, Hyannis, Mass.mini storageNov. 06--BARNSTABLE -- A Pennsylvania man accused of sexually assaulting campers at Camp Good News in Forestdale is now facing a charge of child pornography in his home state.Online court records in Pennsylvania show that Richard P. Smith, 65, of Media, Pa., was charged with one count of child pornography Oct. 29 by Pennsylvania State Police. Details of the complaint that led to that charge were unavailable Tuesday because Pennsylvania courts were closed for elections, a county official said. The Delaware County Daily Times reported that the child pornography charge stemmed from the investigation that also led to Smith being charged in Massachusetts. The newspaper reported that Smith confessed to having pornography on his home computers and an investigation that included the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children found that one of the males in a video on Smith's computer was 14 at the time it was produced. The status of the Pennsylvania case is pending a preliminary hearing, according to the online court record.Attorney Allison MacClellan, who is representing Smith in Massachusetts, said she was aware of the Pennsylvania charges, but only through the newspaper report. She declined comment on whether Smith was aware of the new charge.Smith was in Barnstable District Court on Tuesday for a motions hearing on charges of rape of a child, indecent assault and battery and five counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Those charges stem from Smith's time at the camp in 1981 as a counselor and the allegations involve three campers between the ages of 11 and 15.During Tuesday's hearing, MacClellan argued to have information provided to her on any accusations of sexual assault that Smith's alleged victims have ever made. That motion迷你倉was denied by Judge Robert Rufo.Brian Glenny, a first assistant district attorney for the Cape and Islands, said the motion was "nothing but fishing" to find something to use against Smith's accusers. "This is throwing it out there and hoping something comes in," he said.MacClellan is expected to file a motion to suppress a statement made by Smith to law enforcement in Pennsylvania where he allegedly confessed to the crimes. The deadline for her to submit that motion is Dec. 20 and Smith is due back in court Jan. 9 for a hearing.State troopers from Massachusetts interviewed Smith, along with Pennsylvania troopers, in September 2012, records show. At first Smith denied the allegations, but he consented to a polygraph test in which he admitted that he molested two or three campers, an application for a search warrant says.Unable to make his $10,000 bail since his arrest in April, Smith remains at the Barnstable County Correctional Facility.Smith was the lone person arrested and charged after a 2 1/2 -year investigation by Cape and Islands District Attorney Michael O'Keefe's office. That investigation was prompted by revelations in a book by then-U.S. Sen. Scott Brown that he had been molested as a child at a Christian camp on Cape Cod.Smith, a former teacher at an elite private school in Pennsylvania, also told investigators he improperly touched a fourth-grade student there in 1977, court records show, although no charges have been filed.Smith worked as a teacher at The Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, Pa., for 20 years and was reassigned to the school's capital campaign for an additional eight years before retiring.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 the Cape Cod Times (Hyannis, Mass.)
