Source: Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier, IowaOct.迷你倉最平 17--The 2013 edition of the Iowa Tourism Conference is currently in Waterloo, conducting its business at The Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center downtown. It's a great opportunity for the metro area, and it's the first time Waterloo or Cedar Falls has ever hosted the conference in its 30-year history.Good timing. The area has a lot of positives to talk about and to show off.Waterloo's efforts over the past decade-plus to re-establish its downtown area as a social hub has resulted in many successes. For years, organizers have been working to transform the downtown riverfront area through the $20 million Riverfront Renaissance plan. That includes the restoration of buildings that provide space for various housing and business opportunities.About 300 Iowa tourism professionals are attending, including travel writers and officials from Iowa welcome centers across the state."This is really a great opportunity for us," said Aaron Buzza, director of the Waterloo Convention & Visitors Bureau. "It comes at a great time with all the new developments, especially in the downtown area."Buzza added that those participants can help spread the message of Waterloo's resurgence, with attractions such as the RiverLoop Amphitheatre and adjacent expo plaza, the Phelps Youth Pavilion of the Waterloo Center for the Arts, the Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum of t迷你倉e Grout Museum District, the Dan Gable Wrestling Museum and a revived Fourth Street business and entertainment district. One of the most visible current projects is the Cedar Valley SportsPlex, with its continuing construction downtown. The new riverside amphitheater has already hosted a visit by a sitting president of the United States -- not a bad start. The Cedar Valley Trails, which include both Waterloo and Cedar Falls, won the outstanding tourism attraction award at the 2012 tourism conference in Altoona. The Sullivan Brothers Iowa Veterans Museum was in the running for top attraction that year as well. The portion of trails that runs along the Cedar River through downtown Waterloo mixes well with the efforts to increase recreation opportunities on the river itself.Waterloo was supported by the Cedar Falls tourism bureau, which backed Waterloo's play to secure the conference. It's a great example of cooperation between communities that can pay dividends for the entire Cedar Valley. Those in attendance will receive a guided tour of Waterloo attractions.Welcome to those who are visiting Waterloo during this conference. We sincerely hope you enjoy your stay and are able to enjoy what our community has to offer.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (Waterloo, Iowa) Visit Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier (Waterloo, Iowa) at .wcfcourier.com Distributed by MCT Information Services儲存
