Source: The Porterville Recorder, Calif.迷你倉Sept. 21--LINDSAY ?-- The Lindsay High football team's strong second half proved to be too much for the visiting Shafter Generals at Frank Skadan Stadium in Lindsay Friday night. Led by Alex Jara and Jacob Hernandez, the Cardinals were victorious, 40-20.With Lindsay playing the majority of the first quarter on its heels, the Cardinals managed to cross the 50-yard line once. Shafter opened the game kicking to Lindsay. The errant kick sailed out of bounds and Lindsay started its opening drive at its 35.The snap from center flew over the hands of Jara where he recovered the ball on his 16. The Cardinals managed to move the ball to the 21 before having to punt. Lindsay downed the punt at its own 42 where Shafter began its first drive. The Cardinal defense pushed the Generals back to the Lindsay 48 and forced a punt.Lindsay's Gaven Mann fielded the punt at the 11 where the Cardinals started their second drive of the game. Lindsay managed a first down, but a sack and a penalty forced the Cardinals to face second and 20. Jara's pass down field was picked off by Shafter at the Cardinal 48.Shafter quarterback Toribio Lucas managed a couple of runs to get to the 18. However, the Cardinal defense stepped up and stopped the General offense. Shafter's 34 yard field goal attempt was wide and the Cardinals took over.Jara took the snap and quickly found Jacob Hernandez with a short pass. Hernandez did the rest as he found a crease and broke across the 50. Still running, Hernandez outpaced the Generals and found the end zone for the game's first TD. With the PAT good the score was 7-0, Lindsay.Shafter started its next drive with 2:22 left in the first quarter and ended it four seconds into the second quarter. Starting at their 20 after a touchback, the Generals marched down the field 80 yards. Gabriel Cabezuela capped the drive with a 1-yard TD rush up the middle. The PAT tied the score at 7.Lindsay started to win the battle of field position during the second quarter. Hernandez had a beautiful 46-yard run. Juking one defender and slipping out of the grasp of another, Hernandez was finally pushed out of bounds at the 12.The penalties however, stacked up against the Cards and forced Lindsay to turn the ball over on downs. Creeping toward the endz one with each possession, the Cardinals, managed two fi自存倉ld goals in the second quarter. Jose Lopez hit from 33 yards and 39 yards to give Lindsay a 13-7 lead at the half.Shafter's opening drive in the second half was met by a wall of Lindsay defenders led by Marcos Munoz. Munoz stepped up big with two huge stops and forced Shafter to punt.Lindsay's offense shortened the field with a 49-yard pass to Angel Cortes. Lindsay finished the drive with a 19-yard TD pass to Israel Uribe. The PAT made the score 20-7, Lindsay.Shafter threatened to score after a 27-yard pass to Nick Alexander got them to the 12.Chris Misaalefua charged hard and sacked Shafter's Lucas, causing a fumble, which was recovered by Lindsay. However, Lindsay had to punt and the Generals came hard at the punter and blocked it. From the 7, Cabezuela scored for Shafter to make the score 20-13.On the ensuing kick off, Hernandez returned the ball 50 yards. The next play, Hernandez took the hand-off up the middle and exploded for 40 yards for another Lindsay TD. The Lindsay PAT was blocked and left the score 26-13 Lindsay.When Lindsay kicked to Shafter, Shafter failed to cover the ball and the Cardinals took possession at Shafter's 15. Wasting no time, Jara handed the ball to Hernandez. Virtually untouched, Hernandez ran straight up the middle and across the goal line. Lindsay now had a 33-13 lead after the made PAT.Shafter's drive to start the fourt quarter looked to gain momentum as it threatened again to score. But, another big hit caused another fumble with Misaalefua recovering for Lindsay at its 16. Lindsay was forced to punt as they only managed six yards. This put Shafter back on its 30.While the Generals were able to gain yards offensively, they were plagued with penalties. Facing fourth down and 30, they passed and failed, giving the ball back to the Cardinals. R.J. Rueda now at quarterback for Lindsay, found Isaac Flores in the end zone for a 21-yard pass to the corner. The TD and PAT made the score 40-13 with just under four minutes left in the game.Shafter answered with a 48-yard TD pass to bring the score to 40-20, Lindsay with 2:27 on the clock.The win over Shafter brings Lindsay's record to 3-0 and Shafter to 2-2.Copyright: ___ (c)2013 The Porterville Recorder (Porterville, Calif.)
