Bob McDonnell is launching a statewide tour on an aggressive schedule to tout the work of his administration as it wanes into its final months.Dogged by a gifts scandal, McDonnell is hitting the road for a 22-stop tour that will take him from a fiddler's convention in Galax to a cookout for state employees in Martinsville to a vineyard tour in Machipongo.McDonnell has conducted similar tours in years past.In his first year the subject was government reform, including making his case for privatizing the state's liquor stores, and a subsequent tour in 2011 focused on job creation.In 2012 the "Virginia: Growing Strong" tour took him around the state visiting businesses and schools and ceremonially signing legislation. His Cabinet secretaries also fanned out across the commonwealth on separate tours.That tour came on the heels of a TV ad that McDonnell's political operation had released touting the state's ecoself storageomy. It also followed a legislative session during which the Republican's approval rating slipped.A Democratic Party spokesman at the time called it the governor's "vanity tour."This year, McDonnell and his Cabinet secretaries will highlight accomplishments under the administration, which comes to a close in January.
