千金難買真盛事 口號治港枉吹水財政司司長曾俊華日前在網誌撰文，儲存揚言錢不是萬能，應使則使，企圖為自己洗脫「守財奴」的污名。豈料言猶在耳，他主管的盛事基金便鬧出笑話，撥款八百萬元贊助英超勁旅曼聯訪港獻技，本想藉此推廣香港國際形象，結果淪為國際笑話。今次大球場變大爛場事件，暴露香港體育硬件金玉其外，敗絮其中，當局一再吹噓香港是亞洲盛事之都，竟然只得一個稍為像樣的比賽場地，一旦管理出紕漏，並沒有後備場地可用，尤其在雨季舉辦大型國際賽事，根本就是拿香港的國際聲譽作賭注。其實，盛事基金自○九年成立以來，贊助的活動合共僅吸引約六十萬人參加，而且活動不是波折重重，就是爛尾收場，公帑花了不少，效果適得其反。例如當年作為首項贊助活動之一的梅窩水燈節落筆打三更，原本計劃施放巨型孔明燈締造世界紀錄，竟因技術失誤險釀火災；贊助林村許願節建造大型風車，又遭村民投訴破壞風水而急急拆卸。歸根究柢，盛事基金做不成盛事，反而添煩添亂，皆因當局缺乏自知之明，以為光靠金錢堆砌，就可以把香港打造成盛事之都，根本沒有顧及軟硬件配套，出醜何足為奇。Mega events cannot be created just by squandering moneyA few days ago, the Financial Secretary John Tsang stated in his blog that money is not omnipotent and he would spend whenever necessary, trying to clear his name of being a miser. The Government has time and again blown its own horn, advertising Hong Kong as the Events Capital of Asia. But it turns out that the city has only one single presentable football field. But a fire almost broke out due to technical mistakes. Another example was sponsoring the construction of large windmill for the Lam Tsuen Well-wishing Festival. The windmill had to be demolished in a hurry as the villagers complained it was bad for their fung shui. The Mega Events Fund has only managed to turn its mega events into mega troubles. In the final analysis, it is because the Government lacks self-knowledge and blindly believes that Hong Kong can be built into an events capital just with money.
