The mother of slain tourist guide Masa Tse Ting-chunn will sue the Philippine government, the former mayor of Manila and seven other officials in a Hong Kong court.self storage Lee Mei-chun, Masa's younger brother Tse Chi-kin and wounded survivors Yik Siu-ling and Chan Kwok-chu will file the writ in court today - a day before the third anniversary of the killing of eight Hong Kong tourists during a botched hostage rescue operation in Manila. Their tour bus was hijacked by a sacked police officer with a grudge. According to a report on the killings, Masa Tse was handcuffed to the door of the bus and was the first to die. The bungled rescue by a police SWAT team was seen live on television. Lee said she is taking legal action as the Philippine government has ignored requests by survivors and family members of victims for an apology, compensation and punishment of those who mishandled the crisis. The decision to file the suit followed a meeting yesterday between Tse Chi- kin, Yik and a lawyer. The suit will name nine defendants, the first being迷你倉the government. The second is former Manila mayor Alfredo Lim, who was commander at the scene, and who was reported to be away having lunch when the SWAT team botched the rescue. The rest are officials criticized in the official report including the vice mayor, deputy interior minister, director general - who was highly criticized for the rescue - Manila's chief police official and negotiators. The family will not to sue a reporter who played a live interview between the Ombudsman and gunman. The compensation amount is still under discussion with the lawyer, the family said. Philippines presidential spokesman Edwin Lacierda said: ``I think the Philippine government has already voiced its regret to the victims' families, survivors and the people in Hong Kong. ``I feel sorry for the victims as well. The Philippines government has already responded to Hong Kong's request, including ensuring the safety of tourists worldwide, deploying more tourist police and patroling more around the tourist spots.'' hilary.wong@singtaonewscorp.com 文件倉
